18 years ago Jeff McAffer hired me to work with Chris Aniszczyk and Scott Lewis at this new start-up aimed at supporting the Eclipse Runtime Platform (10 points if you can name that company). Within a few weeks, we merged with Innoopract Informationssysteme GmbH and EclipseSource was born.
Over the years, we had a blast building Eclipse Tooling, p2, Yoxos, Tabris, J2V8 and more recently Cloud Native systems. In 2022, we bootstrapped a new venture called Mediform to bring AI voice assistants for scheduling to medical practices across Europe. We trained models, built custom inference engines and harnesses (before we knew they were called harnesses), and developed several cloud agent systems. EclipseSource / Mediform has a rich history of great engineering teams and I was blessed to be a part of this wild ride.
But after 18 years, the time has come for me to move on to something new, a little closer to home. I’m not sure I’ll miss all the early morning meetings, but I will miss the team.
Finally, I want to thank Jochen Krause for taking a chance on a kid from Canada and keeping me around all these years. You made me a better engineer and a better colleague, but more than that, you challenged me. You’re a great leader, and an even better person. Thank you!
